Today, Patrick Schwerdtfeger gave a lecture on social media. We all use different social medias to communicate with people, promote ourselves in the industry, or just have fun. However, many of us just use it to make the day go faster, entertainment or just to socialize. What if there was more than just having fun using social media? Patrick Schwerdtfeger is a professional speaker on social media victories. Throughout the years of social media, he has come to know that statistics show that 90% of people trust recommendations from friends. 70% trust online reviews found on sites like yelp.com and only 14% still trust the traditional way of advertising such as print and tv commercials.
Besides the statistics showing how people view reviews, one way of finding reviews that is becoming popular is blogging. Blogging provides people to post up their personal views towards anything. Blogs are part of the conversation in todays market. Most sites are now using tags in their blogs instead of their websites to generate traffic. By blogging, you can write one blog post and link it to facebook, linkedin and twitter. Social media is becoming the new wave of communication that its hard to avoid it. Patrick Schwerdtfeger’s lecture just proved that by using social media, you are able to gain so much more that was is being offered.
This is a sample wire frame of how I will be creating my website. Each link will have a drop panel that will show the different links such as under the “Portfolio” link the drop panel will show a list of categories. The categories will be photography, illustrations, page layouts, packaging etc. For “Connect” the panel will drop with Facebook and Tumblr. For “Contact”,”Home” and “About” will just redirect the viewer to a new page that will have information for the viewer to contact me thru. “Home” and “About” will just a have a post about me.

As a Graphic Designer, I value the opportunity to be able to create effective design for the target audience that consists of potential employers. For my web design layout ideas, I have chosen to stay with a clean, crisp and easy to navigate portfolio site. Using a single floating box in my web page will help to keep consistency in the viewing of the web page on different servers. Having effective white space on the website design will make it visually appealing and not overwhelming to the viewer.
The links that will be used are mainly the contact page and the connect page that are located in the header. These two links will redirect guests to the contact page which is my email and pdf resume, as well as my connect page consisting of facebook and tumblr. As far as a grid goes, I plan to use a three or four column grid to keep everything organized. Navigation for my web page will be easy throughout the website. A minimum amount of pages will be connected for easy navigation. In order to help design my web page effectively I will be using a design book for inspiration and as a guide as well.
